This is a photocopy of the catalogue of an exhibition held in London, 1775, at the same time as the Royal Academy's Summer exhibition, which includes text by the artist describing the disagreement with the Academy regarding 'The Conjurer', one of his seven works submitted for the exhibition. In the end he withdrew six of his submitted works (including 'The Conjurer') and exhibited the six with other works of his in a gallery in St Martin’s Lane which he hired for his one-man show.
