$a This is the third edition of N. Dubois's English translation, first published by Leoni between 1715 and 1721. The first edition had been followed by other English translations (Cole and Hoppus's in 1732, and Ware's in 1737), and it was probably in response to Ware's version that this third edition was brought out, enlarged with notes of Inigo Jones and anonymous translations of the L'Antichità di Roma of Palladio and the Fuochi degli antichi of an unknown writer. Although Jones's notes are imperfectly transcribed, this edition seems to have sold well. |
