245 1 4 $a The Anatomy Of The External Form Of The Horse, By James I. Lupton, M.R.C.V.S. - Fourteen Plates And Descriptive Text. -
260 # # $a London: $b H. Bailliere, Publisher, 219, Regent Street. $a New York: $b Bailliere, Brothers, Broadway. $a Paris: $b J.B. Bailliere & Fils, Rue Hautefeuille. ¦ $a Melbourne: $b Ferdinand and F. Bailliere. $a Madrid: $b Bailly Bailliere, Calle Del Principe. $c 1866.
300 # # $a [28] p., 14 pl.; $c 580 mm. (Broadsheet.)
500 # # $a Most pages of text carry no page numbers, but those relating to plates 2, 3, 4 and 12 are each page-numbered [1] and 2.

Plates 1-3, 7 and XI carry unaltered plate numbers, but all the rest have had their printed numberings altered by hand - plates 4-6 from an earlier printed 5-7, plates 8-10 from earlier 12-14, and plates 12-14 from earlier 10, 17, 18. The accompanying descriptive texts similarly have the numbers in their headings changed - usually by the pasting in of a cancel slip, in two cases by alteration by hand.

Plate 1 is bound in as a frontispiece.
505 0 # $a [Frontis. (= pl.1), t.p.] - [Plates and texts].
508 # # $a All plates are signed as drawn and lithographed by William Bagg and printed by M. & N. Hanhart - apart from pl. 2, 8-12, which are not signed by draughtsman or lithographer and are signed as printed by Day & Son. All plates carry the publishers' imprint of H. Bailliere of London and Bailliere Brothers of New York, but pl. 9, 10, 13, 14 add the name of F.(F.) Bailliere of Melbourne.
520 2 # $a The publication date of 1866 is carried by the title page and by plate no. 7, but all other plates carry the date of 1861 (a date which is repeated on their accompanying descriptive texts).

Plate 1 (used as a frontispiece) shows an external view of a horse. Plates 2-14 show anatomical details of the horse and are accompanied by descriptive texts. Plates 13, 14 are printed in color.
562 # # $a Possibly defective: it may be that there should be 2 pages of text describing plate 1 (making a total of 30 p.) - but pl. 1, unlike the other plates, is not anatomical.

On the front endpapers have been pasted four plates drawn by H.B. Chalon and published by R.H. Laurie (1827) showing the anatomy of the horse (three printed in color). At the rear have been tipped in two folding plates published by R.H. Laurie, one by C.L. Brett showing the arteries of the horse (1828), the other the muscles (1823), and loosely inserted a photograph by W. Strudwick of C. Marochetti's equestrian statue of King Richard I, Parliament Square, London.
563 # # $a 19th-century grey cloth-covered boards, upper cover decorated in blind and lettered 'The Anatomy Of The External Form Of The Horse'; spine lettered 'Lupton's Anatomy Of The Horse.' and 'R.A.'
