General Note
Each portfolio volume consists principally of heliogravure plates of the streets and canals of Venice and the islands in the Venetian lagoon.
Vol. I: [8], 100 numbered plates. The 'Note by the editor' is signed by Ferdinando Ongania, as are the 'List of plates and notes on their subjects' (this dated Venice, 1895); the 'Introduction' is by Pompeo Molmenti. This copy lacks plate '41'.
Vol. II: [4], 100 numbered plates. The 'List of plates and notes on their subjects' was translated by Frederick Home Rosenberg and dated 1897 at the end. The plates in this volume are numbered with 'II,' preceding the individual plate number. This copy lacks plate 'II, 64'.
Binding Note
The portfolios are of cream cloth. Neither portfolio has any spine lettering. Vol. I is lettered in gold on the front cover, ' Calli e Canali in Venezia' and 'Ferd. Ongania - Editore'. Vol. II is lettered on the front cover, 'Calli Canali e Isole della Laguna' and 'Ferd. Ongania - Editore Venezia'.
