Summary Note

The work is a study of Leonardo's painting of the Last Supper; which he painted on a wall (but not in fresco) of the convent of Sta. Maria delle Grazie in Milan between 1495 and 1497.

The book is not illustrated, but is decorated with head- and tail-pieces and initials.

The Royal Academy holds an early copy of this painting - attributed to Giovan Pietro Rizzoli ('Giampietrino') or to Marco D'Oggiono.

Provenance

A preliminary leaf is inscribed in ink, 'dono cortese del Mto: [illegible] ...', and with a five-line quotation from Cicognara.
