General Note

This work was published in three volumes with the third volume appearing in two parts: Vol. I - From the Conquest to the end of the thirteenth century (published in 1851, author Thomas Hudson Turner); Vol. II - From Edward I to Richard II (published in 1853, author John Henry Parker); Vol. III, part 1 - From Richard II to Henry VIII (published 1859, author John Henry Parker); Vol. III, part 2 - From Richard II to Henry VIII (published 1859, author John Henry Parker). Following the death in 1852 of Hudson Turner, the publisher and 'Editor of the Glossary of architecture' (as he appeared on the title-page), John Henry Parker, took over as author of volumes II and III. John Henry Parker is listed as the publisher for volumes I and II; John Henry and James Parker are listed as the publishers for both parts of volume III.

Note that the spine title for this work is 'Domestic Architecture of the Middle Ages'.

Provenance

The front pastedown of the first volume carries a 19th century armorial bookplate with the motto 'Tenax in fide' and the owner's name, Gerard Smith.
There is an inscription in black ink on the top righthand corner of the title-page of the first volume, 'Charles Robins. / with S.R's. best love - '.
