Summary Note

This work was published when Henry Graves was at the height of his career in London as a print-seller and fine art publisher. He published at about this time a series of lithographs after sketches by Samuel Prout, Sir David Wilkie and Clarkson Stanfield.

The plates are not captioned but are described in the Table of Contents. They show landscapes, river scenes and seascapes. In only a few cases are locations specified (and these include some in neither Italy nor Britain): 3. Dort; 5. Antwerp; 6. Italian landscape; 11. Tiber; 13. Trent in Tyrol; 17. Tyne; 21. Stafford; 22. Holland; 23. Italian landscape; 25. Moselle. The Table also gives the names of the then owners of the sketches.

Binding Note

19th-century half red morocco, red cloth-covered boards, upper cover carrying pasted-on gilt-stamped cartouche (from earlier binding?) lettered 'Callcott's Italan And English landscapes'; spine lettered 'Callcott's Italian And English Landscapes'.
