The 'General Remarks' by the author and draughtsman of the plates is dated 'Edinburgh, January 1878', from which is taken the publication of the work. As indicated on the list of plates there are notes regarding each group of plates on a leaf preceding the relevant group. The printer statement is found on the final printed page after plate 100, 'Edinburgh. Printed by G. Waterston Sons & Stewart and R. & R. Clark.'

On the verso of the half-title: 'Only Two Hundred & Fifty Copies Printed of which this is No. 1'.

Binding Note

The boards are covered in a brown patterned paper; the spine is in a fawn leather with gilt lettering, 'Scottish Woodwork Sixteenth & Seventeeth Centvries'.
