Summary Note

The four problems addressed here are: entasis; conical section; the determining of the joint at the head of a buttress; and the determining of the cross section of a beam for resistance. These are followed by studies of movement (in Latin, dated 1658), harmonic proportions (dated 1666) and Galileo's solution for the problem of cross sections.
