General Note
First published as Anmerkungen über die Baukunst der Alten (Leipzig J.G. Dyck, 1762), this translation has been attributed to Hendrik J. Jansen and to Michel Huber. This volume was part of a collected edition of Winckelmann's works planned by the publisher Barrois l'aîné (detailed on the verso of the half-title). The frontispiece ('Romæ in æde S. Laurentii extra muros', credited to Winckelmann) has been bound at the end of the work. Several of the pages of the 'Tables des matieres' have been bound in the wrong order. The final page of the 'Tables des matieres' contains 'Errata' and the printer statement, 'De l'Imprimerie de Couturier, Quai & près l'Eglise des Augustins.'
