Responsibility Note

Both frontispieces are signed as drawn by L. Cheron and engraved by E. Kirkall. The plates are not signed by a draughtsman, but twelve are signed by E. Kirkall as engraver.

The work is dedicated by the author to George Viscount Malpas, afterwards third earl of Cholmondeley ('we saw most of these countries together').

Summary Note

The title of the second volume differs from that of the first only in having 'Italy, Spain and Portugal' in place of 'Italy and Spain', and in having a quotation from Virgil in place of one from Lucretius.

In the first volume Breval describes his travels in Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and western France; in the second, his travels in Savoy, Switzerland, Austria, southern Germany, northern Italy and Rome, Portugal, Spain and Gibraltar.

In 1738 Breval published a sequel entitled Remarks On Several Parts of Europe, Relating Chiefly to Their Antiquities and History. Collected upon the Spot In several Tours since the Year 1723.
