500 # # $a This letterpress sheet appears to be background to and a description of the view seen in Linton's painting 'Ætna and Taormina from the Theatre'. From the 1840s Linton had a gallery in his home at 7, Lodge Place, Regent's Park, London, and he possibly exhibited the painting which had been commissioned by Richard Ellison, Esq. there. The exact date of the painting is unclear, as is its current location. The painting was listed in an article on William Linton in the 'Art Journal', 1 January 1858, p. 11.
