An advertisement from the publisher is loosely inserted on which is written "The author of this book was invited in the autumn of 1954 to be a member of a cultural delegation charged with the task of conveying a message of goodwill, signed by 600 of this country's distinguished teachers, scientists, artists, musicians and men of letters, to their professional colleagues in China. The book consists of extracts and sketches from an illustrated journal he kept during the visit, some of which have previously appeared in The Observer and Architectural Review. Lion and Unicorn Press, September, 1956."

“This edition is limited to 200 copies and was designed and printed by the Lion and the Unicorn Press at the Royal College of Art in 1956. The text is set in 12 point Monotype Walbaum and printed on Evensyde White Offset. The illustrations are printed by offset lithography on Basingwerk Suede Parchment. No. 34”
