[93] pl. on [66] sheets (incl. 2 blank sheets); 526 mm.

General Note

Only one group of plates is numbered (plates [20-25] numbered 1-3, 5, 4, 6). Plate [93], by Elseimer, is a duplicate of plate [7].

Responsibility Note

Almost all the plates are signed as engraved by Saint-Non, but a few have no engraver's signature, and some are signed by other engravers (F.P. Charpentier [pl. 19], SL or SZ? [pl. 86, 88, 90]). A few appear to carry signatures that have been deleted. The greater part are signed also with the names of their draughtsmen - most by Robert or Fragonard, others by Boucher, Greuze, Elseimer, Doyen, Tiepolo, Le Prince, Rimbrand.

Summary Note

This album is a compilation of pasted-in plates most of which were engraved by Saint-Non. The collective title assigned to it in the 1802 Catalogue of the Royal Academy Library is 'Recueil d'Antiquités, Paysages, Ornemens, &c. Par St. Non, &c.' Some of the plates fall into groups - e.g. plates [20-25], numbered 1-3, 5, 4, 6; pl. [36-42] (all showing views within the same format, of circle-within-square); pl. [45-50], which carry the title, 'Varie vedute del gentile mulino dissegnate d'appresso natura dal Principe ed intagliate dal abbate di Sannone. Dedicate al amabile e Leggiadra Mulinara. 1755.'; pl. [51-68] (all showing antique fragments); pl. [69-74] (all showing caricatures of Neapolitans). Most plates show Italian landscapes. Most are dated (1755 to 1768, with one dated 1777?).
