Summary Note

Plates 3-19 each show two vases; plates 20-51 show escutcheons (plates 26, 34, 39 each show two escutcheons).

Captions indicate the locations of the vases and cartouches, and name the designers of the modern works. Some engravings are taken not directly from antique vases, but from depictions of vases by Lanfranco, Polidoro da Caravaggio, Cyro Ferri and P.B. da Cortona. Most of the escutcheons were designed by Borromini or Bernini, with some by A. Algardi, P.B. da Cortona, G.M. Baratta, F. Barigioni or Ciro Ferri.
