General Note

This is a photocopy of the original in the Sir John Soane's Museum Library (ref. no. 3365). This item is a single leaf of lithographically printed script. The painting, which could be seen 'on application to W.B. Tiffin, Printseller, No. 434, Strand West, near Lowther Arcade', was to be drawn for in a lottery held at Tiffin's premises. The 'subscribers' to the lottery (limited to 125 persons) paid 2 guineas each and received a copy of James Heath's line engraving of Chaucer's painting. The lottery for the painting was to be held on 7 January 1833.
