Provenance

31 December 1802: 'Mr Flaxman Moved, that a Work now publishing in France (in Numbers) entitled - 'The Prize projects in Architecture' be taken, for depositing in the Library. Which was seconded by M.r Shee, And was Unanimous.' (RA Council Minutes III, 169).

4 March 1803: 'The President produced the 8 first Numbers of a Work Publishing in Paris; entitled Grands Prix D'Architecture to be deposited in the Library of the Royal Academy, which was Approved: - & the President gave an Order to the Treasurer for payment - amounting to £2-5-0' (RA Council Minutes III, 175).

Although at a meeting of Council on 29 December 1820 the newly elected President Sir Thomas Lawrence 'undertook to procure from the continent' the 'Continuation of the Grands Prix d'Architecture' (see RA Council Minutes VI, 184-185) there is no evidence that further cahiers of either this volume or its successors were ever acquired for the Library.

Copy Note

Binding Note

20th-century half calf, 19th-century marbled-papered boards; spine lettered 'Grands Prix D'Architecture'.
