520 2 # $a The Mansion House at Doncaster was Paine's first big commission (1745-1748), and was designed to act both as a banqueting-house and a family residence. Its interior decoration was also designed by Paine. During the 1750s and 1760s Paine became, with Robert Taylor, one of the chief practising architects in Britain.
