510 0 # $a The reception of Claude's drawings and paintings in Britain is discussed in M. Kitson, 'Turner and Claude', in Turner Stud., 2:2 (1983), p.2-15; Classic ground: British artists and the landscape of Italy, by D. Bull et al. [exhibition catalogue] (1981); J.M. 520 2 # $a This publication was a reissue of Imitations Of Original Designs By Leonardo da Vinci ... In His Majesty's Collection (1796) and Engravings From The Original Designs Of Annibale, Agostino, And Ludovico Caracci, In His Majesty's Collection ...(1797), with additions but including the two original title-pages. The Royal Academy already possessed the two earlier publications (recorded as acquired by 1802), and it appears to have acquired only additional leaves from the new publication - but only thirteen of those. These thirteen leaves carry fourteen plates; of which three carry two images - making a total of seventeen images. The tenth to the sixteenth of these carry engraved numbers XLI to XLVII; the first nine have had the numbers XXXII to XL added in pencil (in some cases replacing earlier engraved numbers); the seventeenth has had the number XLVIII added in pencil. Publication-dates of 1807 or 1809 are carried on all fourteen plates, apart from that numbered XLVII, which is undated.

The prints all show drawings by Claude, apart from the two numbered XLII and XLVII, which show drawings by Poussin, and the two numbered XLIII and XLVI, which show drawings by Raphael.
