In the text and plates Normand compares the orders as drawn by Alberti, De L'Orme, Palladio, Scamozzi, Serlio and Vignola and as described by Vitruvius, with surviving ancient Greek and Roman examples. Normand's views owe much to J.-N.-L. Durand; and his outline engravings show the influence of Percier and Fontaine. The plates show measured details of the orders. Besides the present reissue the work was issued again in 1828 and was soon translated into English (1829) and German (1830). |
