Summary Note

Some copies have bound in the paper cover of this cuaderno, of which the title reads, 'Monumentos Arquitectónicos De España. Publicados de Rl. Orden y por disposicion del Ministerio de Fomento. Cuaderno No.'

The titles are in Spanish only; but the text is in Spanish and French in parallel.

The work describes the treasure found in 1858 at La Fuente de Guarrazar, near Toledo; which included gold and jewelled crosses and votive crowns, one carrying the name of the Visigothic king, Recceswinth (r. 649-72). They share features of style and technique with work of the eastern Roman Empire. Most of these votive offerings are now conserved at the Museo Arqueológico Nacional in Madrid and the Musée de Cluny in Paris.

The plates are captioned and show: [1, 2] Coronas Y Cruces Visigodas De Guarrazar (Término De Guadamur); [3] Planta, Lápida Funeraria Y Fragmentos Arquitectónicos De La Basílica De Guarrazar (Guadamur). In-text illustrations consist of a title-page vignette, headpiece and decorated initial.

The first two plates, the headpiece and the decorated initial on p. 1 are printed in color.

Copy Note

On the paper cover the words 'Cuaderno No.' have been struck through in pencil and the words 'Tom. II.' have been added in ink.
