Summary Note

Some copies have bound in the paper cover of this cuaderno, of which the title reads, 'Monumentos Arquitectónicos De España. Publicados de Rl. Orden y por disposicion del Ministerio de Fomento. Cuaderno No.'

The titles are in Spanish; the text is in Spanish and French in parallel.

The work describes the church of Santa Cristina De (Pola De) Lena, commissioned by Ramiro I, King of Asturias (r. 842-50). The church is a symetrical, vaulted, rectangular building, with projecting porch, apse and two side rooms. The altar is marked off from the nave by steps and a stone screen, resembling an iconostasis in eastern Christian architecture.

The plate shows a plan, sections and architectural details of the building. In-text illustrations consist of a title-page vignette, headpiece ('Vista exterior') and decorated initial.

The decorated initial on p.1 is printed in color.
