520 2 # $a Some copies have bound in the paper cover of this cuaderno, of which the title reads, 'Monumentos Arquitectónicos De España. Publicados de Rl. Orden y por disposicion del Ministerio de Fomento. Cuaderno No.'

The titles are in Spanish; the text is in Spanish and French in parallel.

The work describes surviving fragments of Romanesque architecture of Mérida under the Visigoths in the sixth century, in particular from the Basilica Metropolitana, Baptisterio, Conventual, Atrio Metropolitano, Atrio Ducal and Basilica de Sta. Eulalia. These include sculpted pilasters, plaques and furniture, of a quality similar to that of contemporary work at Rome and Ravenna, and showing the influence of the eastern Roman Empire. Their style, with its bevelled edges, low relief and geometric motifs, has been described as 'a kind of metal-working on stone'.

The plates show architectural details of the buildings. In-text illustrations consist of a title-page vignette, headpiece (showing a window) and three decorated initials.

The decorated initials on pp.27 and 67 are printed in color.
