The work describes the Cámara Santa of Orviedo cathedral, almost the only surviving part of the Romanesque cathedral commissioned by King Fruela I in 781 and enlarged under King Alfonso II in 802. The Cámara was remodelled in the late 12th century, destroyed in 1934 and rebuilt. It originally housed relics brought from Toledo. The text is in nine sections, describing: 1, 2.

The plates are captioned and show: 1. In-text illustrations show an exterior view of the Cámara, an initial from a 9th-century codex, bas-reliefs of Sts. Peter and Paul from the early basilica of Oviedo, a cross from a manuscript of the Revelation of John, painted in 1178, and the consular diptych of Oviedo.

Plates 5-8 and two in-text illustrations are chromolithographs.
