The work describes the château made for Francis I by Gilles Le Breton and decorated by Rosso Fiorentino, Francesco Primaticcio and Nicolo dell'Abate. Further decoration was carried out under Henri IV by B. Tremblay and M. Fréminet, and by others from the 17th to the 19th century.

Most plates include a scale bar. Five plates are printed in color.
