Summary Note

The book had been published the same year in folio format, and the Avertissement concedes that this quarto issue 'n'est pas de la magnificence de la premiere'. But it suggests, 'Ce que cette Edition a de plus particulier, c'est que toutes les Médailles sont gravées de la mesme grandeur dont elles ont esté nouvellement frappées'. The medals show various exploits of Louis XIV. The Académie Royale des Médailles et Des Inscriptions became part of the Institut de France in 1795.

Provenance

Acquired between 1769 and 1802. Recorded in RAA Library, Catalogue, 1802.

Binding Note

18th-century sprinkled calf; rebacked in 1996 by J.A. Cassels, retaining most of the spine-piece. Spine-piece gilt-tooled and lettered, 'Medailles Sur Le Regne de Louis Le Grand'.
