No publication-date is given on the title-page, but the 'Sommaire Des Planches' carries a printer's imprint with the date of 1869. The work was published serially in 50 livraisons between 1863 and 1869.
Most plates show European dress - male and female, civilian, ecclesiastic and military. In the Royal Academy's copy almost all plates are hand-coloured.
