Summary Note

The publication-date of 1819 is carried by the title-plate. The plates carry earlier and later dates. The first group of plates had been issued in June 1808 by William Herbert (without collective title), the second in November and December 1808 by William Herbert and Robert Wilkinson, in a wrapper carrying the title 'Scarce Topographical Prints. No. II. ... of Londina Illustrata ...'. The plates continued to be issued serially until 1819, when they became available with the collective title-plate and contents-list described here. Further plates were issued between 1820 and 1823, and, according to Adams, issued as a continuation volume in that year, but without title-page or title-plate. A posthumous edition was published in 1834 in two volumes with two check-lists, and, according to Adams, this brought the total number of plates up to 206. In the Royal Academy's copy the plates carry dates ranging from 1808 to 1823, as follows: 1808 Jun 1[pl. 54, 57, 58, 76], Nov 30 [65], Dec 1 [66, 67]; 1809 Jan 1[26, 80, 82, 84], Mar 30 [1], Apr 3 [81], May 1[59], May 19 [83], Jun 13 [41, 60, 92, 96], Oct 11 [64, 86, 91, 97]; 1810 Oct 11[87-90]; 1811 Feb 11 [8, 72, 74], Jun 4 [61, 85, 94], Jul 27 [99], Aug 7 [2, 100], Oct 7 [93, 95, 101]; 1812 May 8 [68]; 1813 Jan 1 [37, 44, 53, 62, 70, 75], Feb 10 [55], Oct 11 [105], Dec 1[46, 102]; 1814 Jan 1[45, 98], May 1 [4, 117], Jun 4 [5, 6, 63, 109], Aug 8 [71]; 1815 Jan 2 [27, 28], Mar 11 [29, 47, 79], Apr 11[30, 56, 73], Dec 1 [7, 9, 33, 38, 104, 106, 110, 113]; 1816 Oct 11[10-17, 35, 36, 108, 111, 116]; 1817 Oct 11 [20-22, 24, 25, 34, 42, 43, 112, 118]; 1819 Jan 1 [3, 18, 19, 23, 31, 32, 39, 48, 49, 51, 52, 69, 77, 78, 103, 114, 115]; 1820 Sep 27 [119-123, 125, 131-133, 135, 136, 140, 147, 150-152]; 1821 Mar 25 [124, 127, 129, 145, 155]; 1822 Jan 1 [126, 146], Feb 1[134], Mar 1[128, 130, 137], Mar 14 [138], Mar 25, May 1 [157], Jun 1 [139, 153, 158], Jun 4 [156], Aug 7 [142], Dec 1 [141, 144, 149]; 1823 Jan 1 [143, 148, 154].
