Summary Note

This work was originally published in 1607 (Turin: A. Disserolio).

It was based on Zuccari's lectures as principe of the Accademia di San Luca, Rome. Referring to theories of art from Aristotle to Lomazzo, Zuccari expounds his metaphysic of art, including the belief that the artist's original disegno was formed in his mind by God.
