Each plate also carries the name of the source artist - seven by Ribera, two each by Giordano and Stazioni, one each by Vaccaro, Spadaro, d'Arpino, Lanfranco, Finoglia, Maratto and Guido Reni.

The work is dedicated by Luigi Angelini to Ferdinand II, king of the Two Sicilies.
