Summary Note

The work is a study of Leonardo's painting of the Last Supper; which he painted on a wall (but not in fresco) of the convent of Sta. Maria delle Grazie in Milan between 1495 and 1497.

The Royal Academy holds an early copy of this painting - attributed to Giovan Pietro Rizzoli ('Giampietrino') or to Marco D'Oggiono.

Binding Note

19th-century half calf, mottled papered boards; rebacked and recornered in 20th century, retaining earlier gilt-decorated spine-piece and black morocco spine-label lettered 'Leonard De Vinci Le Cenacle - Guillon', spine lettered 'R.A.' and 'Milan 1811'.
