520 2 # $a Goya's Tauromaquia was first published in 1816 (containing thirty-three prints). A second edition appeared in 1855; and this third edition, by Loizelet, in 1876 (with seven additional prints). It is believed that Goya made four further prints in this series, but these were never issued.

The prints have been admired not only for the inventiveness of their composition and their communication of the movement and tension of the bull-fight, but also for their handling of the etching and other mixed media (burnished aquatint, drypoint, lavis and engraving).

Most of the plates are conserved at the Calcografia Nacional, Madrid.
