`Note. The catalogue of Japanese colour-prints and the historical introduction thereto were written in 1906 by the late Dr. Julius [sic] Brinckmann, Director of the Art Industrial Museum of Hamburg. They have been translated and edited ty Lieut.-Colonel E. F. Strange, C.B.E., one of the Keepers of the Victoria and Albert Museum, who has contributed an account of the technical process and the titles of three prints added to the collection since Dr. Brinckmann’s catalogue was printed. Colonel Strange has catalogued the “Cries of London,” “The Beaufort Hunt,” and other engravings included in this volume; and has written the descriptive and historical notes accompanying them.’ [page v.]
