Summary Note

Publication dates appear on all plates apart from the second of the five unnumbered plates. Dates in the first numbered series range from 1744 to 1747; in the second numbered series, from 1743 to 1745; in the unnumbered group, from 1746 to 1748.

The two series of numbered plates show paintings executed by Taddeo and Federico Zuccaro for Cardinal Alessandro Farnese at the Villa Farnese, Caprarola, from ca. 1559 to 1569, and displaying accomplishments of the Farnese family. The five unnumbered plates show plans and views of the villa (designed by Vignola) and its gardens (designed by Vignola and Giacomo del Duca). The frontispiece is a portrait of the dedicatee, Cardinal Acquaviva D'Aragona.

Binding Note

18th-century vellum; red morocco spine-labels lettered 'Palazzo Di Caprarola Dia Zuccari' and 'Roma 1748'.
