General Note

This work was originally published in parts between 1830 and 1833. When the work was issued in volume form it appeared in small paper and large paper copies; this copy is one of the large paper copies. The plates are etched or lithographed (and often difficult to tell which). The only printer statement found in this copy is on the verso of the letterpress sheet headed 'Addendum to Specimen VIII' (which accompanies plate XVII) and reads 'C. Whittingham, Tooks Court, Chancery Lane.'

Brown leather spine with gilt lettering, 'Shaw's Illuminated Ornaments' and 'R.A.'
