Summary Note

The plates show Orcagna's sculptures for the monumental, domed tabernacle commissioned to house an icon of the Virgin in the Orsanmichele, Florence; which he made between 1352 and 1360. They represent scenes from the life of the Virgin, angels, the Apostles, Old Testament saints and allegoric figures of the virtues.

A paper label has been pasted onto the upper cover, inscribed in ink in an unidentified hand, 'Il Tabernacolo della Madonna Andrea Orcagna'; to which has been added seemingly in another hand 'Press 1 Shelf 1'.

Binding Note

19th-century half mottled calf, brown paper-covered boards, rebacked in 1998; spine lettered 'Il Tabernacolo Della Madonna' and 'RA'.
