In Volume I the dedication plate (portrait of Pope Pius VII) is signed as painted by G.B. Wicar, drawn by L. Agricola and engraved by P. Fontana. All numbered plates are signed by draughtsmen and engravers. The draughtsmen were L. Agricola, F. Pistrucci, A. Pozzi. F. Giangiacomo, A. Miliarini, L. Pontani and Mori. The engravers were A. Marchetti, D. Marchetti, A. Testa, Banzo, L. Fabri, P. Ghigi, G.B. Leonetti, G. Petrini, Balestra, N. Aureli, L. Cunego, G. D'Este, A. Ricciani, P. Fontana, G. Folo, P. Savorelli, G. Carattoni, B. Consorti. The last, unnumbered plate (lettered 'A') is unsigned.

The title-page vignette is signed as drawn by A. Pozzi and engraved by Alessan. Mochetti.

The work is dedicated to Pope Pius VII by Antonio D'Este and Gaspare Capparoni.

Summary Note

The plates show the ancient Greek and Roman sculptures that were housed in the Vatican in the museum commissioned for them by Pope Pius VII (Chiaramonti). These galleries were an extension of the Museo Pio-Clementino established by Popes Clement XIV and Pius VI.

12 November 1814: 'Resolved that the following Books be purchased for the use of the Library - 7th Vol. of the Museo Pio Clementino / 1st Vol of the Chiaramonti Collection' (RA Council Minutes V, 178). Acquired by 1821 (see A Catalogue of the Library in the Royal Academy, London, 1821, p. 6).
