The plates reproduce the paintings which Lanfranco made for the Cappella Buongiovanni in the church of Saint Augustine, Rome, in 1616. They show the Virgin venerated by S. William and S. Augustine (altarpiece), incidents in the lives of S. William and S. Augustine (painted canvasses), and the Assumption of the Virgin - the first dome fresco of the Roman baroque, which influenced several later artists.
