Summary Note

The half-title reads, 'Histoire De La Sainte-Chapelle Du Palais'.

The work had first been published in 1857 (Paris: Impr. F. Malteste et Cie.).

It describes the two-storey chapel commissioned by King Louis IX of France from an un known architect to house relics of Christ, the Virgin and other saints. The chapel was consecrated in 1248. The building was damaged during the French Revolution, and restored from 1837 onwards by Felix-Jaques Duban, Jean-Baptiste Antoine Lassus and Viollet-le-Duc.

The first twenty plates (chromolithographs) show the mural decoration and stained glass; the last five (engravings) show plans, sections and an exterior view.
