General Note

The thirty-two leaves of plates carry a total of sixty-four plates - each leaf carrying one plate on its recto and one on its verso. The first thirty-eight plates are numbered I-XXXVIII. The second twenty-two are numbered I-XXVIII (the groups of plate-numbers IV-VI, VII-X, XI-XII and XXIV-XXV being assigned to one plate each). The third four are numbered I-V (the numbers 'II. Et III' being assigned to one plate). The added engraved title plate appears to be included in the register of signatures of the letter-press text.

Summary Note

The publication-date of 1620 is given on the title page, title plate, dedication and colophon. The Approbatio has the date 1619; the Privilege, 1617.

The title given on the added engraved title plate is: 'Ludovici Nonni Commentarius In Huberti Goltzi Graeciam, Insulas, Et Asiam Minorem. Antverpiae Apud Iacobum Bieum CIƆ. IƆC. XX.'

The plates show ancient Greek coins. Some of the impressions are poor.

Provenance

The front pastedown carries an 18th-century armorial bookplate imcorporating the motto 'Foy Est Tout'. The front loose endpaper is inscribed in ink, 'Purchased 1835 G.J. Librn.' The title page is inscribed in ink, 'Purchased Geo Jones Lib. Rl Ay.'

Binding Note

17th-century calf, upper and lower cover having gilt-stamped ruled borders and blind-stamped monogram 'HL' with coronet centre; spine lettered 'Nonn In Numi Graec Antiq'.
