Responsibility Note

Most plates and in-text illustrations are signed by draughtsman and wood-engraver - who are named again in the 'Table Des Gravures'. Draughtsmen were Étienne Bocourt, Jules Lavée, Félix Thorigny, Ulysse, Grandsire, Godefroy Durand, Edmond Morin, Gustave Janet, Jules Férat and Hippolyte Pauquet. Wood-engravers were L. Chapon, Dumont, Sotain, Charles Maurand, Boetzel, Henry Linton, Peulot, Édouard Coste, Frederick Moller, Hippolyte Dutheil, Aymard, Étienne, N. Morel, E. Roevens, Pierre Verdeil and Charles Barbant.

The printer is named on the verso of the half-title: 'Paris. - Typograhie De Henri Plon, Imprimeur De L'Empereur, Rue Garancière, 8.'

The work is dedicated by Charles Yriarte to L'Académie Royale Des Nobles Arts De San-Fernando.

Provenance

The verso of the front free-endpaper is inscribed in pencil, 'S: A: H', i.e. S. A. Hart, Librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81. Purchased for RA Library in 1871 (see RA Annual Report for 1871, p. 29) .
