Summary Note
The publication-date of 1841 is given on the title pages, but the dedication carries the date of '15 Maggio 1844'.
Malvasia's Felsina Pittrice Vite De Pittori Bolognesi had first been published in 1678, to correct what he regarded as the Florentine bias of Vasari's lives. It traced the course of painting at Bologna from the early Renaissance through the Carracci to Malvasia's contemporaries, Guido Reni and Domenichino. Full of detail and anecdote it remains a valuable source of information about Bolognese artists.
