General Note

The work was privately published with two parts presented in a single portfolio. The cover of part 1 is printed with: Jean Foucquet, Etc. Photogravures. The first part has ten pages of text followed by five sepia facsimiles, each preceded by a description and, in addition, with plates IV and V there is a transcription of the French text contained on each image.

In part 2 the four three-colour (without black ink) photographs are separately bound, and issued with the title: Four photographic facsimiles (by three-colour process) from detached pages of a fifteenth-century manuscript of "Histoire ancienne jusqu'à César" and "Faits des Romains". The cover of part 2 is printed with: Jean Foucquet, Etc. Three-colour photographs. Each photographic facsimile is preceded by French text from the manuscript related to the image.

The printer's name is found on the verso of the title-page of each part.

Copy Note

Although several libraries have noted in their cataloguing that this work was thought to be limited to 20 copies, the copy presented to the Royal Academy is numbered in ink 74 on both cover titles and both title-pages.

Binding Note

Both parts of the work are found together in a blue paper-covered portfolio with 'Jean Foucquet Etc. Etc.' printed in black ink on the front board.
