500 # # $a The first plate carries the number I; the second, II and X; third, III; fourth, IV and VI; fifth, V and VII; sixth, VIII; seventh, IX; the eighth to the twenty-seventh, XI to XXX; the twenty-eighth, XXXI and XXXII; and twenty-ninth, XXXIII. The plates are a mixture of lithographs printed from zinc plates and etchings (probably printed from steel plates). Many of the sheets bear several images printed from separate plates, Pl. XXVI-XXIX (depicting Kolbe's Weimar Künstler-Verein 'transparency') were evidently originally intended to be bound as quarto plates. Rather unusually while the upper images on pl. XXI were printed lithographically, the lower one was printed from an intaglio plate.
