The plates show portrait statues or busts sculpted by Sir Francis Chantrey, and one drawing and one design by him. All but one are captioned, and show: [1] Francis Chantrey; [2] Sir John Malcolm; [3] Cyril Jackson; [4] Sir Joseph Banks; [5] Dr. Anderson; [6] Benjamin West; [7] George III; [8] Sir Edward Hyde East; [9] George Canning; [10] William Pitt; [11] John Rennie; [12] Sir John Soane; [13] Earl St. Vincent [drawing]; [14] Arthur Henry Hallam; [15] Sir Stamford Raffles; [16] [uncaptioned: reclining female]; [17] George IV; [18] Granville Sharp; [19] Robert Blair; [20] John Rennie; [21] Lord Eldon [design for a monument].

Sir Francis Leggatt Chantrey took the place of Joseph Nollekens as the most sought-after portrait sculptor in Britain. He was elected a full Member of the Royal Academy in 1818.

On his death Chantrey left a bequest to be administered by the Royal Academy to buy 'works of fine art of the highest merit executed within the shores of Great Britain'. Most of these are now kept at the Tate Britain gallery, London.
