The frontispiece and all numbered plates are signed as drawn by Vr. Calliat (pl. 1, 4, 24 as drawn by him with J.J. Olivier), and as engraved by him (except that pl. 16, 25 are signed as engraved by Lecoq, and pl. 23 as engraved by Leroy). The frontispiece also carries the imprint of Lamoureux.

Summary Note

This is an account of the Hotel-de-Ville of Paris, built between 1522 and 1628 and enlarged between 1835 and 1848 in Renaissance-Revival style by the architects J.B.C. Lesueur and E.H. Godde. (These buildings would be destroyed in 1871.)

The plates show plans, elevations, sections, interior views and details (including staircases and ceilings). Each plate includes a scale-bar.

The title-page vignette shows 'Armes de la Ville de Paris 1582'.

The front pastedown is inscribed, 'S:A:H' (i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81).
