520 2 # $a This publication is an early fruit of the programme of Albert and Isabella to develop a sense of national identity in the Netherlands, of which they had become joint rulers in 1599. Antoine de Succa's commission to copy historical images of Albert and Isabella's ancestors from all over the Netherlands would continue for many years, and its results be made available to other artists, including Rubens.

The double plate shows a map, 'Brabantiæ Ducatus Accuratissima Descriptio. 1599.' The illustrations are full-page. The first shows the arms of Albert Ernst and Isabella; the rest show portraits of dukes of Brabant. The book also has decorated initials and a title-page vignette showing the printer's device and motto ('Labore Et Constantia'). The printer's device also forms the colophon.
