The plates are mostly hand-coloured engravings; the initials and decorations are colour printed from wood blocks. Vol. 1, added title-plate, illustrated and in colour:'Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages from the Seventh to the Seventeenth Centuries by Henry Shaw F.S.A.' Printer statement of verso of the title-page in each volume, 'Printed by C. Whittingham, Chiswick.'

Binding Note

Replacement spine lettering vol. 1, 'Dresses & Decorations of the Middle Ages Shaw' and 'R.A.' The only remaining lettering from the on the spine of vol. 2 reads 'London 1843' and 'II.'
