London: Augustin Rischgitz, The Studios, Linden Gardens, London, W., [1898]
Physical Description
43 mounted photographic prints 375 x 485 mm.
General Note
Reproductions of drawings by John Constable R.A. selected from the gifts of Miss Isabel Constable to the British Museum and the South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria & Albert Museum). The drawings were selected to show 'a fairly complete and representative survey of the artist's activity during all periods of his career.' [The Sketch, 1898 October 19, p. 591]
Each reproduction is mounted with the photographer's name and address printed on the mount below the image. On the verso of each mount 'J. Constable R.A.' is written in pencil in the centre of the mount with, at the bottom of the mount, a sequential number (1 to 42) followed by the title of the drawing, it's date, medium, and in which museum it is to be found.
Binding Note
The reproductions are in a green portfolio, half-bound in green cloth. The front board is lettered in black, 'Drawings by John Constable, R.A.' and 'Photographed and Published by Augustin Rischgitz, The Studio, Linden Gardens, London, W.'
