520 2 # $a This is a compilation of thirteen well-known prints engraved by Nicolas Dorigny. Eleven carry publication-dates (between 1697 and 1710) and were made in Rome before Dorigny came to Britain in 1711 to make his set of engravings after Raphael's cartoons at Hampton Court.

They comprise the following single prints and groups (listed according to date of publication):

(1) four engravings after paintings in St. Peter's, Rome, by Cigoli (print dated 1697) [no.6 here], Lanfranco (dated 1699) [no. 5], Domenichino (dated 1699) [no. 8] and Guercino (dated 1700) [no. 7];

(2) Guido Reni's Holy Trinity (dated 1702) [no. 9];

(3) Raphael's Transfiguration (dated 1705) [no.1];

(4) four engravings after Domenichino's Evangelists in Sant'Andrea (dated 1707) [nos. 10-13];

(5) the Descent from the Cross by Daniele da Volterra (dated 1710) [no. 2];

(6) two undated, numbered prints after two paintings by Francesco Albani on the myth of Salmacis (Ovid's Metamorphoses, IV), which were perhaps published after Dorigny's arrival in Britain (they are dedicated to the Duke of Devonshire) [nos. 3, 4 here; numbered '1, 2'].
